Our national flag
The National flag of republic of India is a horizontal tricolour flag (tiranga). It has saffron colour at the top, white in the middle and the green at the bottom. They are equal in proportion. In the centre of the white band there is a wheel in navy blue to indicate the Dharma chakra, the wheel of law, as seen in the capital of Sarnath. Its diameter approximately the width of the white band and it has 24 spokes. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is two is to three (2:3).
The saffron colour stands for renunciation or disinterestedness. It reminds us to work without any selfishness. The white colour stand for purity and truth. It reminds us that our conduct should be guided by truth. The green colour shows our relation to the plant life, on which all other life depends. It also stands for faith and chivalry.
The Indian National Flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. There are certain rules to display the flag which are given in the flag code of India 2002.
