Types of colours .

Types of division in colours :-

Primary colour :-

These are the colours that cannot be created by mixing with other colours. For example,
The primary colours are red, yellow and blue. In theory, every other colour can be obtained by mixing these colours in varying proportions.

The tertiary colours are produced by increasing the proportion of one of the primary colours in the mixture. The tertiaries are red-orange, yellow-orange,  yellow-green, blue-green , blue-violet, red-violet.

The complementaries :-

The complimentaries are there of pure colour such as Red and green; violet and yellow; blue and red. When placed side by side, they enhance each other. Red looks redder and green looks greener.

Natural greys :-

The term 'pure' is used to describe a primary or any mixture of two primaries. So, the secondaries and tertiaries which we have looked at, are all pure colours. If a third primary is introduced into the mixture, a duller, less saturated colour is produced. This is a neutral grey - a grey without colour-biasness. Here, the artist has created neutral grey by adding red to green, yellow to violet, blue to orange.
